Ivan Briggiler was born in Argentina and moved to the United States in 1996. He is married and has 3 children.
He graduated cum laude in Economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. His hobbies are biking, choir singing and building dry stone walls.
Ivan joined Merrill in July 1996, where he has been working with international clients for the last 20 years, helping them to set up the appropriate account architecture and to invest their assets according to their needs and goals. He previously worked for Citigroup Argentina, as a credit risk analyst, and for Banco Itaú (in Argentina) at their money market trading desk.
Although an economist at heart, Ivan likes to add a technical approach to investing, with trend following as a key component in deciding the direction of the major market trends. He believes all portfolios should have a long term core allocation to equities and fixed income, with a satellite short to medium term component invested in individual equities and exchange traded funds (ETFs).
On the asset managed side, he likes to review managers based on risk return statistics (alpha, share ratio, beta, R2, standard deviation) in order to better understand the quality of the historical performance. On the trading side, he considers price and volume to be key components in determining the direction and quality of the market trend.
