Alexander Van de Leur strongly believes that successful financial advice must be based on the personality, priorities, resources, and needs of each client as a unique human being. This is why Mr. Van de Leur first conducts thorough interviews with prospective clients to make sure that he fully understands their backgrounds, motivations, fears, and goals to unite all moving pieces of their financial lives into one holistic financial strategy. In this way, all his financial advice and recommended solutions flow from this deep level of understanding to achieve optimal results for each client, so that they can do more of what they love to do.
With his access to the resources of Bank of America and Merrill, Mr. Van de Leur provides financial planning, investment research, portfolio design, portfolio management, banking, lending, insurance, trust services, investment banking, and access to family office services to his clients to help protect and build out their financial security. Mr. Van de Leur has successfully provided financial advice, strategies, and solutions to individuals, families, foundations, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations for 29 years. By relentlessly taking care of his clients’ financial interests, Mr. Van de Leur has achieved a track record of trust, performance, and service.
At Merrill, Mr. Van de Leur holds the special title of Senior Portfolio Manager, which means that the firm has authorized him to design, implement, and manage his own customized investment strategies for his clients. At Merrill, Mr. Van de Leur serves his clients from its flagship 5th Avenue Financial Center at 75 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
Before Merrill, Mr. Van de Leur served as First Vice President, Financial Advisor, and Portfolio Management Director at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in New York and Los Angeles for more than 10 years. Before Morgan Stanley, Mr. Van de Leur served as Director - Investments at Oppenheimer & Co. in Los Angeles for five years. Mr. Van de Leur started his career as Financial Advisor and Portfolio Manager at UBS Financial Services in Beverly Hills, California, where he worked for 4 years. After September 11, 2011, Mr. Van de Leur worked for three years at N.A.C.T., a not-for-profit organization in New York City that raised millions in funds for programs to benefit disadvantaged children. Mr. Van de Leur’s career in finance started at J.P. Morgan, where he worked as an investment banker in New York and London for five years, focusing on acquisition financing and mergers & acquisitions for corporate clients.
Mr. Van de Leur holds a Master’s degree in international economics and finance from Columbia University in New York City and a Bachelor’s degree in international politics from Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
A native of Breda, the Netherlands, Mr. Van de Leur is a dual citizen of the United States and the European Union. Besides English and Dutch, his native language, he also has language skills in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Afrikaans. Mr. Van de Leur serves on the Board of the 13 Morton Street Condominium in New York City, a landmark building in the historic West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Mr. Van de Leur also serves on the Board of MasMas Productions, a film production company in Santa Monica, California, which to date has produced Queen Mimi and Black Hat, both of which won multiple film festival awards and secured global distribution deals with Netflix and HBO/Max, respectively. Mr. Van de Leur is married and has one 8-year old son.
*A Senior Portfolio Manager can help clients pursue their objectives by managing on a discretionary basis [his/her] own Personalized or Defined Strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. A Senior Portfolio Manager may make their strategies available to clients working with other Merrill Advisors.
