In sixth grade, Pat began working alongside his dad at their family’s grain company. While Pat recalls the long hours, his strongest memory was that of his grandparents whose retirement years were cut short by the need to continue working after their savings had run out.
After college, Pat returned to his dad’s company. In 1984, he joined Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and never looked back.
Today, Pat serves a loyal circle of C-suite and other corporate executives, professional partners, business owners, individuals who inherit wealth and generations of families in 22 states. Many came to Pat to retire comfortably – or stay retired – without running out of money due to inflation and other circumstances. To help enhance their financial and emotional wellness, Pat aims to bolster distinct aspects of their financial picture – with customized retirement and education planning, risk-managed investing, cash management, and access to credit and lending through Bank of America, N.A.
Pat finds his rigorous industry training has given him the techniques and tools that continue to benefit clients. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. A lifetime learner, Pat continues to attend IRA seminars.
Asking questions of clients at the outset and throughout each relationship, Pat is able to learn what a previous advisor did not, “What’s your comfort level with investing? How do you feel about your portfolio? What if you become disabled? What if your spouse becomes ill? What do you envision for your retirement? What about helping your children – or a non-profit? Have you considered a trust, long-term care or another form of insurance?”
Conferring with both spouses when possible and entire families when helpful, Pat is able to facilitate meaningful conversations, identify the goals of all stakeholders and show charts on the value of “time in the market, rather than timing the market.”
Using Merrill Lynch Wealth Management research, Pat helps clients manage risk and expectations by crafting portfolios diversified across asset classes including blue chip stocks with rising dividends that Pat says, “Can help younger clients build wealth and help older clients stay wealthy.” Customized retirement income planning strategies come with Pat’s reminder that “no plan should be left behind or on its own.” To align tax minimization and estate planning strategies for clients, Pat coordinates with their CPAs and attorneys.
