Profile

Bringing a deep sense of humanity and good humor to clients he’s served for decades, David continues to attract successful women and men who make thoughtful financial decisions and don’t think of themselves as wealthy. On behalf of down-to-earth individuals who are much like him, David enjoys connecting the dots in their lives with strategies that address their real-world goals and concerns.

David’s clients include professors, engineers, accountants, physicians, attorneys, financial and other corporate executives, and generations of extended families. For his well-educated clientele, David finds it helpful to present the pros and cons of alternative scenarios and then sit back – giving clients sufficient time and insight to consider which avenue may be most advantageous.

At the core of David’s relationship with clients is his rigorous planning-based approach. Rather than being a one-time event, David maintains frequent and friendly contact with clients, to keep them updated on progress toward goals they’ve agreed upon, and review when their situations and aspirations may change.

“First, I need to learn why a client is sitting in front of me,” David says. “Can they define the purpose of their money and can I help them do that? If they don’t envision using all of their future nest egg, how do they wish to pass it along in the most responsible, tax-efficient manner? I take great pride in educating clients and showing them where a financial blind spot might expose them to a risk or circumstance they don’t anticipate.”

When it comes to investments, David pays close attention to increasing the value of assets with tax minimization strategies and urges clients to be “tax aware” all year long. He also examines each client’s cash flow and spending – what’s coming in and what’s going out – to help increase savings channeled toward investments and protective components including insurance.

David launched his financial services career in 1993 and joined Merrill from PNC Bank in 2020 for many of the same reasons his clients followed him here. Now he can do more for clients – from working with their CPAs and attorneys on tax minimization and estate planning strategies, to bringing clients access to Bank of America, N.A. for residential, securities-based, custom and commercial lending solutions.

David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Ball State University’s Miller College of Business. He and his wife, Angie, reside in Crestwood, Kentucky with their teenage son and daughter – Nate, a track-and-field athlete at Transylvania University and Christine, a high school soccer player. When not watching them compete, David practices his own fitness regimen – running and lifting weights while on a zero sugar, zero grains diet.
