Mary Robinson Carter is a Financial Advisor who works with first-generation wealth creators, business owners, and C-Suite executives navigating pivotal financial transitions—often for the first time. Her work focuses on moments that are both financially complex and deeply personal, including business succession and sale, leadership and equity transitions, retirement planning, and designing life after liquidity.
As a first-generation wealth creator herself, Mary brings lived experience to her work and understands that money is never just about money. It reflects identity, responsibility, family dynamics, and legacy—especially when you are the first to build it. This perspective allows her to meet clients with empathy, cultural fluency, and clarity, helping them move forward with intention and confidence.
Mary’s clients include a diverse group of founders, women business owners, entrepreneurs, executives, and nonprofit leaders. Many are navigating wealth without a long family history of financial education or institutional guidance. Mary provides thoughtful coordination across wealth, legal, and tax professionals, ensuring her clients feel supported not only technically, but personally, as they make decisions that shape their future impact.
Mary is a Vice President and Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and is a proud member of the Balboa & Blevins Group. She serves on her firm’s Leadership Council and is President of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Women’s Exchange, where she champions education, access, and economic empowerment for women investors and advisors.
In addition to her professional leadership, Mary serves on the boards of two nonprofit organizations and is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers her time providing financial counseling to survivors of domestic violence, helping individuals rebuild financial stability and reclaim independence during critical life transitions.
Mary earned her bachelor’s degree from Elon University. She is married and lives in the Washington, D.C. area, where she remains actively engaged in professional, philanthropic, and community leadership.
My mission, first and foremost, is to understand you and what matters most to you. Armed with that information I can ask thoughtful questions -- listening carefully, then understanding in detail where your wealth stands today and where you'd like it to be tomorrow. I help you design and implement a personalized plan intended to help you and your family pursue financial goals while helping manage investment risk. My approach is to focus on potential solutions that can help turn goals into reality.
