For years, John Doscher has crafted real-world, risk-managed strategies around personal and financial objectives that he helps clients identify, prioritize and accomplish. Some clients want to know what’s required to send children to college, to plan for and enjoy the retirement they envision, how to effectively inherit and distribute assets, purchase a first or second home or refinance a mortgage. Regardless of a client’s situation or ambitions, he believes that “planning is everything” and that getting out in front of their needs is essential to providing superior wealth management. That’s why he encourages both spouses to talk frequently with him. He also does everything possible to educate “the next generation” in client families, so that wealth and wisdom can be passed along.
John has always believed that clients deserve to rest easy, especially when the markets don’t. That’s why, he tends to focus on generating income, prudent growth and tax efficiencies. With decades spent in institutional and advisory roles, John uses Merrill's Model Portfolios and selected independent managers for specialized investments to help clients reach goals they find personally meaningful.
His clients include successful men and women – telecom, media and other corporate executives, attorneys, accountants, entrepreneurs and generations of families in more than 15 states. Most clients are planning for rewarding retirements and preserving their wealth with reasonable growth and yield.
His wife, Madeline, was a Spanish teacher and native of Puerto Rico who worked in fashion in New York City, where they met. She currently works part-time with ESL and at a physical therapy office. They have two daughters and three young grandchildren. When time allows, he enjoys spinning, skiing, snowshoeing, tennis, and travel to Spain and Puerto Rico. John paid for college driving school buses in Denver and building the original ski lifts for Keystone and Copper Mountain Resorts. At the University of Denver, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, threw the javelin for the varsity track team, and raised Alaskan Malamutes.
John follows the deep-seated Merrill tradition of participating in the communities we serve. This drives his interest in spending time volunteering with organizations in his community. He is a member of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce in Connecticut. In addition to having assisted HomeFront Inc. with community-based home renovations, he currently volunteers for Merrill-sponsored events, local high school events and youth coaching. John is happy to say that he has met many clients and closest friends through local community and business activities.
I BELIEVE THAT
• A good advisor does more than manage clients' investments. Throughout the year, I work closely with clients' CPAs and attorneys to align tax minimization and estate planning strategies. I also provide clients with access to residential and securities-based lending through Bank of America, N.A. (NMLS ID 1249951)
• My background in sociology and anthropology allows me to appreciate clients' fears, objectives and concerns about those they love. Working with both spouses and grown children when possible, I aim to connect the dots in their lives with a financial strategy that feels right to them.
