Brian Hetherington is the founder of the Hetherington Group, a leading wealth management team that works with affluent and ultra-affluent families. Brian has built the Hetherington Group into an experienced team of 8 professionals. The team maintains strong, long-term relationships with clients through an analytical investment approach and high level of personalized client service.  

After earning his bachelor's degree from Princeton University, where he played football, Brian went on to attend the Executive Education Program in Value Investing at Columbia University Business School. In addition to his client responsibilities, Brian serves as the team's Managing Partner.

He was named to the Forbes America's Top Wealth Advisors list in 2016-2026 (Published annually Aug – Oct. Rankings based on data as of Mar 31 – June 30 of current year).  Brian was named to the Barron’s “Top 100 Financial Advisors” list 2026, 2025, 2010, 2009, & 2006 (Published annually March - May. Rankings based on data as of December 31 of prior year*)*.  Brian was honored with Bank of America Corporation’s David Brady Community Service Award for his outstanding client focus and overall commitment to the company and his community. The award is named for David Brady, a financial advisor who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. He was highly respected for putting the client first and giving back to his community. This award not only immortalizes David’s legacy but also rewards employees such as Brian for their continuous hard work in meeting the needs of their clients, colleagues and communities.  

Brian and his wife, Jane, reside in New Canaan, and have three adult children. Brian is actively involved in Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut where he was a board member. Brian was inducted into Xavier's Hall of Honors and the Middletown Sports Hall of Fame. He is a volunteer for Princeton University's Class of 1985 advancement efforts and is active in the Princeton Football Association. Brian is a past board member and a volunteer for the New Canaan YMCA. He is an active member of his church, where he serves on the vestry.  Brian enjoys playing golf, hiking, live music and reading. He is also an avid cyclist and participates in the Closer to Free Cancer Ride.

1. WealthBriefing WealthTech Americas Awards, February 2025. The judging process is guided and assisted by a panel of independent experts, each of whom has been actively involved in the family office and wealth management industry for many years and have an in-depth knowledge of the WealthTech sector.

2. The Digital Banker Digital CX Awards, April 2025. Nominees are selected on the qualitative and quantitative depth of their nominations. The Digital Banker research team will shortlist four institutions or individuals per category, which will then be put to our impartial panel of expert judges who will undertake a rigorous audit type process to carefully select the winners.

3. Bank of America employs Ipsos, in conjunction with Qualtrics to continuously measure Merrill Lynch Wealth Management client satisfaction via an online survey. Results quoted are from surveys conducted June 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025, with a total sample of 40,742 clients randomly drawn from the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management client base after eligibility (minimum $100,000 in household assets, advised relationships) and privacy exclusions (deceased, in litigation, bad email address, etc., and had they been included percentages may be different). When asked how satisfied the client was with their primary financial advisor, 95% rated them a 9 or 10; 4% a 6–8; and 1% a 1–5.

4. Money Management Institute (MMI) / Barron's Industry Awards, October 17, 2024. Winners were selected by a specially appointed MMI Industry Awards Steering Council. The Steering Council consists of representatives from all segments of the MMI membership. After carefully reviewing the nominations submitted, the Steering Council determined a slate of finalists in each award category. The primary contacts at each of MMI's member firms were eligible to vote to determine the winners.
