Since joining Bank of America in 2016 and moving to Merrill a year later, Kevin has cultivated relationships with a growing circle of clients in the San Diego area, throughout California and more than ten other states. Most are active and retired physicians and business owners – including members of the LGBTQ community – with 401K and other defined benefit plans.
Kevin feels that his rigorous industry training allows him to bring clients an uncommon level of financial knowledge and work more thoughtfully on their behalf. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. Given his focus on planning and extensive skillset, he finds it critical to help clients to articulate “the meaning of their wealth” and what they want their money to help them accomplish.
Well aware that each piece of a client’s financial puzzle affects their overall financial picture, Kevin develops multi-pronged strategies that span risk-managed investing, retirement planning, tax minimization and estate planning strategies, and insurance. Based on a client’s situation, he also advises on Social Security and Medicare planning and timing, long-term-care and other relevant issues.
Kevin’s banking background also affords him a distinct perspective on helping clients enhance both sides of their balance sheets – assets and liabilities. He offers access to Bank of America, N.A. for residential and securities-based lending, practice-based solutions for physicians, and commercial lending solutions.
In each relationship, Kevin focuses on educating clients with clear and timely explanations of the “what’s and why’s” of his strategies. Whether they’re looking to build wealth for the future, generate income for retirement, preserve it for the next generation, or create meaningful giving strategies, he draws upon an array of skillsets to implement customized strategies on their behalf.
Kevin is a qualified Senior Portfolio Advisor who can help clients pursue their objectives by managing on a discretionary basis custom investment strategies, selecting from a wide range of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management model portfolios and third-party investment strategies.
When it comes to investments, he customizes model portfolios from the firm’s Chief Investment Office. Based on a client’s goals, risk tolerance, investment timeline, liquidity needs and other factors, their portfolio might include stocks, bonds, ETFs, separately managed accounts and mutual funds. Kevin encourages clients to ”see investments as a tool, not a transaction” – and to concentrate on long-term results.
Beyond investments, Kevin often coordinates with clients’ CPAs and attorneys, to help align tax-minimization and estate planning strategies. In everything he does, Kevin strives to help clients move efficiently (and tax-efficiently) from Point A to Point B, with minimal risk and emotion.
A native of Southern California, Kevin is a car aficionado. He also enjoys his free time hiking, traveling and volunteering for San Diego Pride.
